Dining out at Cheaper than Eat-at-Home Prices?

September 11th, 2009

Most of you know I’m not keen on dining out. It’s not the process. It’s the cost that keeps me from overzealous restaurant adventures.  Enter Restaurant.com, with their super sale and it utterly blows away my thrifty “let’s not eat out” mentality.  How’d you like to save 90% on a meal (at a local restaurant of your choice)? Seriously. Five star dining for two at a cost of a happy meal price each? It’s quite honestly the best deal on dining you’ll find in a long time…

Here’s the scoop:

If you don’t click on the link and at least see this special offer after reading here, the budget police should show up and re-educate you.  Here’s how it works, Restaurant.com partners with various dining establishments all over the country. These are (thankfully), mostly local establishments that don’t spend massive dollars on national advertising strategies. Some are the mom and pop spots locals head for, others are upscale dining or ethnic cuisine.  However it shakes down, you will find a welcome mix within reasonable distance of your home in choices.  What Restaurants.com usually offers are deals on gift certificates that you can pay for and print out. These are typically at a greatly reduced price anyway.

For example, the latest offering had been a range of deals, usually for a $10 or a $25 gift certificate. When you’d buy a $10.00 gift certificate, you would spend only $4.00! (Yeah, that’s right folks). If you upped the ante to a $25 certificate, you’d only drop $10.00! As with anything, there are some exclusions, which vary restaurant to restaurant. This $25 certificate I’ve selected, from South Haven, Michigan, for Sea Wolf Restaurant, is only valid with a minimum purchase of $35. The 18% gratuity is added to pre-discounted check amount. And it excludes holidays, special events and Saturdays.  Ok, so you eat $35 of delicious seafood at the Sea Wolf, overlooking Lake Michigan, which you’ve spent $10 in gift certificate for and another $10 in cash difference.  You’ve saved roughly $15. That’s already a great deal, right?

BUT there’s more! For the next three days, if you enter the code “ninety” in the checkout, you’ll save an extra ninety percent off these already great deals. This means you can gobble up the dining out experiences like a gluttonous hog, while keeping your budget too…. Oh the thought. The same deal, I mentioned above, that cost me $10 for the gift certificate? On this 90% off sale, you’ll only drop ONE DOLLAR TO GAIN $25 IN GIFT CERTIFICATE. OMG!!!! Once you figure in the cost of the meal, and the buck you’ve spent at Restaurant.com, I’m not even sure I can buy groceries that cheap. Hurry ‘cause this sale lasts only for three days, but other savings at Restaurant.com will go on. There’s no limit to the number of times you can apply the 90% discount code, although some certificates are limited in quantity.  Also, Restaurant.com allows you to peruse the menus of these spots before making your selections. What are you waiting for? Get going and eat out (a bunch) this weekend. Pick some certificates up for holiday gifts for friends or family and enjoy!

Here”s the link to savings at Restaurant.com and don’t forget your offer code, “ninety” in the checkout!
